Characteristics and application of eddy current flaw detection method for seamless steel pipes:

Eddy current testing has been used for quality inspection of steel pipes for decades. After continuous improvement and development, eddy current testing has become one of the inspection methods recognized at home and abroad as an alternative to hydrostatic testing, and is widely used. Almost all steel pipes, whether ferromagnetic or non-ferromagnetic, generally have a diameter greater than 2mm and a wall thickness of not less than 0.1mm, can use eddy current flaw detection, especially for online or offline automatic flaw detection of pipes and bars. Features of high detection speed. According to the requirements of the variety of steel pipes, the general steel pipe eddy current inspection can have the following forms:

1. Pass-through eddy current inspection

Pass-through eddy current testing is one of the most widely used methods in steel pipe eddy current testing. Generally, steel pipes with a diameter less than 180mm use this testing method. It is characterized by fast detection speed and can realize the inspection of the entire steel pipe surface, equipment adjustment and operation. are relatively simple. Commonly used through-type eddy current flaw detection equipment consists of detection parts, including eddy current flaw detectors, detection coils and magnetic saturation devices; auxiliary parts, including mechanical parts, such as loading and unloading gantry, transfer rollers, detection host, control system and demagnetization and marking devices, etc.

2. Rotating point probe type eddy current flaw detection

Rotating point probe eddy current flaw detection is an automatic flaw detection method in which the point probe network rotates around the steel pipe and the steel pipe advances in a straight line. The point probe is placed in the rotating head, and the probe rotates to complete the scanning of the steel pipe surface.

The detection sensitivity of the point probe is high, so it is generally used when the quality of the steel pipe is high. The rotating point probe is often used in combination with the pass-through type, because the rotating point probe is more sensitive to cracks distributed along the axis of the steel pipe. Pass-through coils are sensitive to defects or cracks distributed around the steel pipe, and both can complement each other.

The rotating point probe method is more suitable for the detection of medium and small diameter steel pipes, and the sensitivity of the point probe is high, so it is suitable for the detection of steel pipes with a smooth surface. Rotating point probe type eddy current flaw detection.
